Community Rosary
Background
According to tradition, a young Franciscan novice who used to create a crown of flowers for a statue of Mary was unable to continue this practice after entering the monastery.Feeling discouraged, he considered leaving until Mary appeared to him in a vision, instructing him to weave a crown of prayers instead – specifically, to pray seven decades of Hail Marys in honor of her seven earthly joys. One day, the Director of Novices saw him praying in chapel with an angel next to him. The latter was weaving a crown of roses, placing a golden lily between each of the 10 roses. When James finished praying, the angel placed the crown upon his head. The Novice master asked the young friar about the meaning of this vision. After hearing the explanation, he told the other friars and soon the practice of reciting the Crown of the Seven Joys spread throughout the Franciscan Order.

Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father,
we ask for the grace of the Holy Spirit,
that as we meditate upon these joys of the Mary,
we may be strengthened and encouraged by her own joy.
We ask for the grace of the Holy Spirit for prayer and peace.

The First Joy of Mary
The Annunciation
The Gift Of Fortitude
Reflection
※ At baptism, we are called by name to give flesh to Christian values and beliefs.
● In responding to the gift of baptism, how do I respond to the invitation to build up the Body of Christ?
● Name people and events in my life which have helped me live out my faith commitment.
(Our Thanksgiving)Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .
Prayer
O God, who willed that your Word should take on the reality of human flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, grant we pray, that we who confess our Redeemer to be God and man, may merit to become partakers even in his divine nature.
Amen.

The Second Joy of Mary
The Visitation
The Gift Of Counsel
Reflection
※ Mary’s response to God was the powerful prayer of the Magnificat, the joyous acknowledgement of God’s goodness within her.
● What will be my response to God?
● Whom do I turn to for counsel and friendship in my life?
(Our Intentions)Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .
Prayer
Almighty ever-living God, you inspired Blessed Virgin Mother to visit Elizabeth, while she was carrying your Son in her womb, grant us we pray, to be faithful to the promptings of the Spirit, we may magnify your greatness with the Virgin Mary at all times.
Amen.

The Third Joy of Mary
The Birth of the Lord and the Adoration of the Magi
The Gift Of Fear Of The Lord
Reflection
※ In reflecting upon the role of Mary as a woman of faith, we learn that she accepted the will of the Father and all that went with that responsibility.
● How do I respond to the will of God in my life?
● Imagine the emotional turmoil Mary experienced at the time of Jesus’ birth. She turned to God for strength.
Where/what/whom do I turn to during periods of emotional turmoil in my life?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .
Prayer
Grant us we pray, Almighty God, that we who are bathed in the new radiance of your incarnate Word, the light of faith, which illumines our minds, may also shine through in our deeds.
Amen.

The Fourth Joy of Mary
The Presentation of the Lord and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin
The Gift Of Wisdom
Reflection
※ As Mary and Joseph presented Jesus to the elders of the Temple, they once again displayed their love and faithfulness towards God.
As you were presented by your parents or you presented yourself to the Lord in the Sacrament of Baptism, your parents/Godparents also displayed their love and faithfulness towards God.
● How do I express my love and faithfulness towards God?
● How do I share wisdom with others?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .
Prayer
Almighty ever-living God, we humbly implore your majesty that, just as your Only Begotten Son was presented on this day in the Temple in the substance of our flesh, by your grace, may we be presented to you with minds made pure.
Amen.

The Fifth Joy of Mary
The Finding of the Christ Child in the Temple
The Gift Of Understanding
Reflection
※ This event was probably a frustrating and stressful experience for both Mary and Joseph. The happiness of finding Jesus was lost when Mary and Joseph could not comprehend his explanation.
● When do I most often lose sight of Christ within my life?
● How do I seek to understand the wisdom of God and the will of God?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .
Prayer
O God, who were pleased to give us the shining example of the Holy Family, graciously grant that we may imitate them in practicing the virtues of family life and in the bonds of charity, and so in the joy of your house, delight one day in eternal rewards.
Amen.

The Sixth Joy of Mary
The Resurrection and the Meeting of Mother and Son
The Gift Of Piety And Love
Reflection
※ The ordeal of seeing her only Son die a criminal’s death was undoubtedly a traumatic experience for Mary. She drew strength from the Father’s love and realized that Jesus would conquer death through the power of God.
● From where do I draw my strength?
● Does the gift of the resurrection truly give me a reason to hope and a reason to live?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .
Prayer
O God, who on this day, through your Only Begotten Son, have conquered death and unlocked for us the path to eternity, grant us we pray, that we who keep the solemnity of the Lord’s Resurrection, may rise up in the light of life.
Amen.

The Seventh Joy of Mary
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and Her Coronation as Queen of Heaven and Earth, and Protectress and Advocate of the Franciscan Family
The Gift Of Knowledge
Reflection
※ As Mary experienced the call from God, we also need a deepening conviction and eagerness to hear God’s call in our lives and respond to the call. It is important to trust God enough to allow ourselves to respond freely and generously as Mary did.
● Am I as eager to hear God’s call as Mary was?
● How are the fruits of the Holy Spirit (love, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, serenity) growing and affecting my relationship with God and others?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .
Prayer
O God, you looked on the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary, raised her to this grace, that your Only Begotten Son was born of her according to the flesh, and that she was crowned this day with surpassing glory, grant that we through her prayers, saved by the mystery of your redemption, may merit to be exalted by you on high.
Amen.
Hail Mary . . . (x2)

Guided Rosary, Care for Creation
(Pope Francis’ “Laudato Si”)

"The earth herself, burdened and laid waste, is among the most abandoned and maltreated of our poor."The purpose of the following meditations on the rosary are primarily to help us realize that Christ came into this world. Like Christ, we are called to shape the world around us, in a way that reflects our inherent dignity and worth, as well as the dignity and worth of God’s creation that surrounds us.

The First Luminous Mystery
(Our Thanksgivings and Intentions)
The Baptism of Jesus
※ Water has always had a tremendous significance in the Bible and in our faith life. It is a sign of renewal, new life, and the cleansing of sin. By following Jesus in the Sacrament of Baptism, we too are following His example and must try to live our life as closely as possible to His.Reflection
● Bring to mind the simple wonder of water; its purity, its cleanliness, sung in Canticle of the Creatures: “All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Water so useful, humble, precious and pure.”
● How do I receive creation: as a resource to consume, or as a sacred gift to reverence?
● Where have I treated “water” (time, energy, resources, living creatures) as mine to waste, instead of God’s entrusted gifts to protect?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .

The Second Luminous Mystery
(Sharing in Pairs)
The Wedding at Cana
※ Jesus, at the urging of Mary, performs His first miracle by changing a jug of water into wine at wedding. We know that through Mary’s help and intercession, we can also be transformed by Christ spiritually and in worldview.Reflection
● What “abundance” (attachment) am I chasing that is really just over-consumption?
● Do my habits or lifestyles consume in ways that diminish (exploit) others or the earth?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .

The Third Luminous Mystery
The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God
※ Some of the parables that Jesus used specifically relate to nature, so we have a better understanding of the Kingdom of God; the sower and the seeds, the weeds in the grain, the seed growing secretly, the story of the mustard seed. Jesus uses nature as a way to speak to us; many times as something to mirror God and the glory of the Kingdom.Reflection
● Where have my words, tithing, almsgiving, become an act of love for neighbour (friends family community); caring for the poor and the vulnerable in God's Kingdom?
So that my giving is not only charity from the heart, and becomes a work pleasing to God; respect for what others are rightfully owed in love.
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .
The Fourth Luminous Mystery
(Pair Sharing)

The Transfiguration
※ Often, our actions are driven by compulsion, (like Peter’s reaction to build two tents), without much thought to what the consequences are to us or the world around us, or about how the little ways that God’s glory is revealed.Reflection
● We hustle through life sometimes without stopping to recognize that Christ is ever present everywhere. Can we perhaps take a moment to slow down and think of how we have a bigger impact on each other and creation?
● When nature becomes inconvenient, do I “master” it or do I receive it with awe? When were such times?
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .

The Fifth Luminous Mystery
The Institution of the Eucharist
※ The Eucharist is the sum and summit of our Catholic faith. We already know that Christ is present always and everywhere, but His presence is most tangible in the Blessed Sacrament.Reflection
● “Blessed are You, Lord God of all creation, for through Your goodness we have the bread and wine we offer you: Fruit of the land and work of human hands, it will become for us our spiritual food and drink.”
How does my care for the earth and its people, reflect reverence for the our gifts placed on God’s altar?
● It is through the Earth, God created, and that which is provided for us spiritually, that He nourishes our bodies and our souls. Let us also be grateful in recognizing the efforts of farmers, workers and our loved ones, to get meals to our tables.
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen,
Mother of Mercy.
Hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To Thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
(Let us Pray)O God,
whose only begotten Son
by His Life, death and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation.
Grant, we beseech You,
while meditating upon these mysteries
in the Most Holy Rosary
of the Blessed Virgin Mary,

MARY UNDOER OF KNOTS

"A (Novena) Marian devotion honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary’s intercession to untangle the difficulties and sins in our lives."Problems and struggles we face with no solution,
Knots of discord in our families,
Knots of deep addiction,
Knots of (dwelling on the) past,
Block the heart from experiencing joy and hope in God.Mary, the un-doer of knots, accompanies us as we carry our Cross, as she accompanied Jesus during his Passion. She comes to intercede for us, so that many issues can be unknotted.

The First Sorrowful Mystery
The Agony In The Garden
※ Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here, while I go yonder and pray.’ And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, ‘My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.’ And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.’Dear Mother,
As we begin accompanying your Son at the start of His Passion in the Garden of Gethsemane, we remember that our Lord, despite knowing what would lie ahead of Him, willingly accepted the cup of suffering from the Father out of His immense love for us.
Help us to undo this knot of fear in facing the many challenges that surround us, to overcome the fear that binds us in the face of war, disease, loneliness and hardship. Intercede for us that we may not look at the agony and hardship before us, but help us to focus on the eventual Triumph that is ahead of us. Amen.
(Our Thanksgivings)Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .

The Second Sorrowful Mystery
The Scourging At The Pillar
※ Pilate released Barabbas to them, but after he had Jesus scourged, he handed him over to be crucified.Dear Mother,
We see your Son being scourged with chains of iron and steel at the pillar. We see the scars and the wounds that the King of the world is subject to, and we cringe at the suffering He has to endure in order to earn redemption for the sins of mankind in this world, especially the sins of the flesh. And despite all this, we struggle constantly to overcome our temptations of the flesh.
We offer this knot of indifference unto your hands to be untied. Unbind this knot that keeps us silent despite seeing so much injustice before us in our world.
Untie this knot around our hearts so that your love will flow and we can recognise and take action to uphold the dignity of life in every single person. Help us to call on your intercession to overcome all temptations of the flesh. Amen.
(Our Intentions)Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .

The Third Sorrowful Mystery
The Crowning Of Thorns
※ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetorium, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him, and plaiting a crown of thorns they put it on his head, and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!Dear Mother,
Your loving Son was as meek as a lamb even when He was mocked, spat on and willingly wore the crown of thorns. In doing so, He helped us to earn the crown of eternal life.
Help us Holy Mother to undo this knot of bitterness, undo this knot so that our forgiveness will flow to those who have wronged, wounded and hurt us. Pray for us not to hold on to this knot; instead, free us to forgive and love everyone just as your Son taught us to do.
Help us all to offer our suffering for our salvation and the salvation of all sinners, and the poor souls in Purgatory, especially those most in need of God’s mercy. Amen.
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .

The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery
The Carrying of the Cross
※ And they compelled a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull)Dear Mother,
You were there when your Son carried the cross for our sins, and the sins of all the world. You saw His every stumble and fall under the weight of the cross.
Pray for us as we hand to you this knot of weakness that prevents us from embracing the life that your Son has called us to. We ask you to untie this knot so that we’ll be willing to take up our own daily cross and follow your Son not because we have to but because we want to.
Undo this knot to help us not to deny our cross and our faith but that our weakness be turned into strength so that we can boldly answer the call of our mission and proclaim the triumphant message of the holy cross on which our Saviour died. Amen.
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . . (x10)
Glory Be . . .O my Jesus . . .

The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery
The Triumph of the Cross
※ And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. And Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do' ...
It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun's light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, 'Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!' And having said this he breathed his lastDear Mother,
We stand with you at the foot of the cross, gazing at your loving Son whose blood and water shed for us poor sinners, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life.
We ask that you undo this knot of lukewarm faith, so that our every thought, word and deed is conformed to the will of our Heavenly Father, like yours was, and always has been.
Just as you willingly said yes to God’s plan at the Annunciation and changed the course of our lives and helped us to gain eternal salvation, pray for us to fervently follow your Son in our everyday lives. Just as His Passion and Death is not the end but the beginning of our salvation journey, we pray for your constant intercession along every step of the way as we trust in your maternal care and protection. Amen.
Our Father . . .

Virgin Mary, Mother of fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exists in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon us and see the snarl of knots that exist in our life. You know very well how desperate we are, our pain and how we are bound by these knots. Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of His children, we entrust into your hands the ribbon of our lives.
No one, not even the evil one himself, can take it away from your precious care. In your hands there is no knot that cannot be undone.Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and My Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today these knots... we beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once for all, You are our hope.O my Lady, you are the only consolation God gives us, the fortification of our feeble strength, the enrichment of our destitution and with Christ the freedom from our chains.
Hear our plea. Keep us, guide us, protect us, o safe refuge!
Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for us. Amen.

First Reading
(Exodus 17:3-7)
A reading from the book of Exodus.Tormented by thirst, the people complained against Moses. ‘Why did you bring us out of Egypt?’ they said. ‘Was it so that I should die of thirst, my children too, and my cattle?’Moses appealed to the Lord. ‘How am I to deal with this people?’ he said. ‘A little more and they will stone me!’The Lord said to Moses, ‘Take with you some of the elders of Israel and move on to the forefront of the people; take in your hand the staff with which you struck the river, and go. I shall be standing before you there on the rock, and water will flow from it for the people to drink.’ This is what Moses did, in the sight of the elders of Israel. The place was named Massah and Meribah because of the grumbling of the sons of Israel and because they put the Lord to the test by saying, ‘Is the Lord with us, or not?’The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.
Second Reading
(Romans 5:1-2, 5-8)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.Through our Lord Jesus Christ, by faith we are judged righteous and at peace with God, since it is by faith and through Jesus that we have entered this state of grace in which we can boast about looking forward to god’s glory. And this hope is not deceptive, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us.We were still helpless when at his appointed moment Christ died for sinful men.It is not easy to die even for a good man – though of course for someone really worthy, a man might be prepared to die – but what proves that God loves us is that Christ died for us while were still sinners. The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.
Gospel
(John 4:5-16, 19-26, 39-42)
Jesus came to the Samaritan town called Sychar, near the land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well is there and Jesus, tired by the journey, sat straight down by the well. It was about the sixth hour. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her. ‘Give me a drink.’ His disciples had gone into the town to buy foodThe Samaritan woman said to him, ‘What? You are a Jew and you ask me, a Samaritan, for a drink?’ – Jews, in fact, do not associate with Samaritans.Jesus replied: ‘If you only knew what God is offering and who it is that is saying to you: Give me a drink, you would have been the one to ask, and he would have given you living water.’‘You have no bucket, sir,’ she answered ‘and the well is deep: how could you get this living water? Are you a greater man that our father Jacob who gave us this well and drank from it himself with his sons and his cattle?’Jesus replied: ‘Whoever drinks this water will get thirsty again; but anyone who drinks the water that I shall give will turn into a spring inside him, welling up to eternal life.’‘Sir,’ said the woman ‘give me some of that water, so that I may never get thirsty and never have to come here again to draw water. I see you are a prophet, sir. Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, while you say that Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.’Jesus said: ‘Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know: for salvation comes from the Jews. But the hour will come – in fact it is here already – when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth: that is the kind of worshipper the Father wants.God is spirit, and those who worship must worship in spirit and truth.’The woman said to him, ‘I know that Messiah – that is, Christ – is coming; and when he comes he will tell us everything.’‘I who am speaking to you,’ said Jesus ‘I am he.’Many Samaritans of that town had believed in him on the strength of the woman’s testimony when she said, He told me all I have ever done,’ so, when the Samaritans came up to him, they begged him to stay with them.He stayed for two days, and when he spoke to them many more came to believe; and they said to the woman, ‘Now we no longer believe because of what you told us, we have heard him ourselves and we know that he really is the saviour of the world.’The Gospel of the Lord
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
